Recursive Agreement: When LLMs Start Defending Earlier Bad Assumptions

Most LLM Failures Don’t Come From Prompts — They Come From Assumptions

LLM Failure Pattern - Recursive Agreement

Most people think prompt engineering is about writing better instructions. But in reality, the biggest failure point is hidden deeper: recursive assumptions.

📉 The Core Problem

When an LLM reasons, it often takes an early weak assumption and gradually reinforces it across steps. This creates a false sense of “validated truth”.

⚠️ Example: A model assumes a company is stable → then builds all reasoning on top of that assumption.

🧠 The Fix: Contradiction Audit Loop

  1. Extract assumptions
  2. Attack assumptions
  3. Invalidate weak premises
  4. Rebuild reasoning

✔ This reduces hallucinations and recursive bias in long-context reasoning.
